PARTICLE PHYSICS Ph.D. students (f/m) for the Belle II Group Remuneration Group 13

DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.

The particle physics program of DESY includes strong contributions to the Belle II experiment at KEK in Japan that will start data taking in early 2018. The experimental program is enhanced by collaboration with a strong theory group. The DESY Belle II group is involved in data analyses focusing on Dark Matter searches and B-physics. In addition, the group is involved in the commissioning of the Belle II pixel vertex detector, and software development (including Machine Learning) for the tracking detectors and the electromagnetic calorimeter.

Your activity:

  • Analysis of Belle II data
  • Software development for the Belle II electromagnetic calorimeter

 

Your profile:

  • • Diploma/Master in Physics with excellent grades 
  • Deep interest in particle physics experiments
  • Very good teamwork, communication and presentation skills 
  • Ability and eligibility to travel to Japan 
  • Very good English language skills

DESY in Hamburg does not grant doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with several universities, predominantly with the University of Hamburg. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the universities terms of admission for doctoral theses.

The position is limited to 3 years. Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
