PhD student (m/f/d)

The Max-Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI) conducts basic research in the field of nonlinear optics and ultrafast dynamics arising from the interaction of light with matter and pursues applications that emerge from this research. It develops and uses ultrafast and ultra-intense lasers and laser-riven short-pulse light sources in a broad spectral range in combination with methods of nonlinear spectroscopy. The spectral range includes in particular XUV radiation and soft x-rays, where experiments at in-house sources are complemented with the use of accelerator driven sources such as free electron x-ray lasers.

MBI invites applications for 1 PhD student (m/f/d) to perform attosecond-pump attosecond-probe inner-shell spectroscopy.

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

Over the past few years we have developed a unique setup for the generation and application of intense attosecond pulses. Using this setup, the successful applicant will study complex Auger processes directly in the time domain by means of attosecond-pump attosecond-probe inner-shell spectroscopy. The initial experiments will be performed in atoms and may later be extended to molecules. For theoretical support within this project, we have agreed to cooperate with Prof. Agapi Emmanouilidou from University College London.

The entire project will be realized in an optimum environment with respect not only to the existing infrastructure but also to the available experience and possibilities for national and international collaborations. This will provide the necessary basis for achieving essential results within shortest time as well as for their dissemination at international level.

Ihr Profil:

Master or diploma degree in physics, good knowledge in ultrafast laser physics, experience in attosecond physics is beneficial.

Offer:

MBI offers a 3-year appointment. The payment is according to the German TVöD salary scheme for scientists in public research institutions (75%).
