High-Level Technical Exchange: Cutting Edge Coatings Welcomes the DUV/VUV Community to Hannover

Hannover, June 2026 – In early June, Cutting Edge Coatings GmbH hosted the 45th meeting of the DUV/VUV workshop and welcomed numerous experts from industry and research to Hanover. The working group was jointly founded more than 20 years ago by PhotonicNet and Optence e.V. and provides an established platform for in-depth technical exchange on current developments in photonics, particularly in the deep and vacuum ultraviolet spectral ranges. It is currently organized by Dr. Henrik Ehlers and Dr. Michael Kennedy (Laseroptik GmbH, Garbsen) and meets twice a year at companies or research institutions in the optics industry.

The event focused on practical technical presentations, in-depth discussions, and direct exchange within the community. Participants gained in-depth insights into current research and development projects and took the opportunity to expand their professional networks and further strengthen existing contacts. A particular highlight was the subsequent tour of the production facilities. During the tour, guests were able to experience modern technologies and processes in the field of optical coating up close. As a specialist in the development and implementation of ion beam sputtering (IBS) systems for high-quality optical coatings, Cutting Edge Coatings is closely connected to the technological issues discussed during the focus group. “As hosts, we are very pleased that we were able to offer participants not only a space for professional exchange but also an insight into our technologies and processes,” said Dr. Kai Starke, founder and managing director of Cutting Edge Coatings GmbH. “Direct dialogue with leading experts in the industry is of great importance to us and provides important impetus for future developments.” Special thanks go to Laseroptik GmbH, the event organizer, as well as to all those involved for the successful organization and execution of the meeting.
