Brief Outline
Since its foundation in 1965, Hannover Medical School (MHH) has developed into an internationally recognized center for tertiary patient care and innovative medical research. MHH researchers secure more than €100 million in competitive third-party research funding each year, consistently placing the institution among Germany's leading medical universities. More than 25,000 outpatients and 6,000 inpatients are treated annually at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Anke Leichtle. The department's principal clinical areas of expertise include implantable hearing systems, skull base surgery, and laser medicine. As the world's largest center of excellence for cochlear implantation, the department has enabled more than 14,000 deaf patients to regain hearing and experience the benefits of hearing through cochlear implant treatment.
